How a father spent evenings entertaining his four sons strolling through closed car lots sharing his knowledge of cars became the early foundation for San Diego's premier boutique collectors car club.
Michael Olguin and his brothers Gary, Ruben, and John grew up walking through car lots after hours in a small California desert town. Their father Gillie, a diesel truck driver by trade, was a car and motorcycle lover who would take his four sons to car lots in the evenings.
"Given we were all between the ages of 8-14 most kids would think this was boring, but we loved it. We were fascinated by the shapes, sizes, colors, makes and models. Deep down we were dreaming about one day driving a Cadillac, a Mercedes or a sports car."Michael Olguin, Founder
Each brother developed their own passion: Gary fell for a 1949 Plymouth. Ruben gravitated toward Porsche and Mercedes. John loved Broncos and classic Mercedes. Michael found himself drawn to mid-60s European and American classics — the cars that blurred the line between engineering and art.
Those walks weren't about ownership; they were about respect for the machine, the craftsmanship, and the people around you who shared that passion.
Gillie's Auto Lounge brings that spirit to San Diego. Michael created the car community he grew up loving — a place where your car matters, where the community is real, and where storage is just the beginning.
Gillie's is a hybrid: secure auto storage, a members' speakeasy lounge, a curated community, and a full-service classic and exotic care operation — all built around genuine car passion.
Climate-controlled, 24/7 monitored, fire protection beyond code. Battery tenders, tire pressure checks, and weekly wipe-downs of every car.
Leather couches, cold drinks, a bar, and a big screen. A place to work away from home, to play some chess, gather with friends who understand why your car matters.
The outdoor Mezzanine faces west and sits high above the concrete jungle with an outdoor fire bar — perfect for a bourbon and cigar.
Cars & Coffee mornings, organized drives, poker runs, watch parties. Real gatherings for real car lovers.
Detailing services upon request, battery tenders, tire-pressure monitoring, specialized car photo shoots. We handle the logistics so you can focus on driving.
We don't ask you to fill out a form. We sit and have a conversation. Our 21-question survey helps us understand what drives you, what you love about your car, and what kind of community you're looking for.
It's not about processing applications. It's about selecting potential members who get it — understand car culture, believe in car passion, and who will allow Gillie's to be part of your car's story.
Michael is a lifelong car enthusiast who grew up learning from his father Gillie. He built Gillie's Auto Lounge to create the community he'd always wanted to be part of — a space where passion for cars brings people together.
His vision was simple: a place where your car isn't just protected, it's celebrated. Where every member is valued. Where storage is secondary to connection. Where the people who care for your car love it the same way you do.
Prior to creating Gillie's, Michael had a successful business career building Formula PR into one of the largest public relations agencies in the country. He later sold the agency to Havas, a French holding company with entities in many industries.
"We believe that your car is not just something you own. It's something you love. And it deserves people around it who love it the same way. We're those people."
That's what drives everything we do. From the way we curate our community to the services we partner with, every decision flows from this principle. Your car matters. Your passion matters. And you deserve to be surrounded by people who understand that.
